Bodyline Seifuku (Sailor Uniform) Review

hey everyone! sorry i haven't been posting. this summer has been unexpectedly busy for me, and when i'm free i'm honestly too tired to do very much! but it's been a fun summer so far.  

so for today i will be reviewing bodyline's summer short sleeved seifuku! i got this for my birthday recently. the model on the website is COSTUME410. they offer it in many different colors, but i chose very pale lilac-y pink (the model is wearing it). 

now, usually when i buy anything from bodyline their M is a pretty good choice for me. the measurements for the M on this seifuku looked good to me, but when i got it it was pretty small. the top fit okay, but it was too short-- it's a sort of cropped top that hits around the end of your natural waist, and then a high waisted skirt. but the skirt was very very tight and too short, and though the top wasnt exactly too small it ended too high on me.

i also didn't know about the thread connecting the pleats at the bottom you were supposed to remove, but i was informed of that pretty quickly.

so i went back and ordered a 2L and it finally arrived recently. it fits pretty well! i'd still like the skirt to be a little longer, but if i wear shorts i would feel perfectly comfortable with it.

as you can see, the ratio of where the top ends and the skirt begins is perfect and just as intended. the skirt fits perfectly fine. there are two little spots of elastic in the waistband of the skirt, and it closes with a zipper and a hook. 

the seifuku top closes with a zipper straight up the front, but it's covered by a seam. this makes it a little hard to zip, but if you're careful it's fine. it also created a few stray threads on the inside after a few times of zipping and unzipping, but i just pulled them off. i don't think it would cause any long-term damage even if that keeps happening.

here's the seifuku on the hanger, looking a little wrinkled from wear. the construction is nice and it looks very clean-edged. my favorite element is the bow, as it's so big and adorable! the material of the white fabric on the top is relatively thick and somewhat rough, but that's (to my knowledge) how actual seifuku are, and i've seen some people complain about this like it's an issue of quality, which it isn't. i think if you were to buy an authentic seifuku from j-list or anywhere, it'd be the same texture. it didn't bother me at all, as i fully expected it.

the white middle section of the top is sewn into one side of the collar and snaps closed on the opposite side. the little triangle of fabric is the same as the rest of the white on the top. i always wondered how those little triangles worked, so it's interesting to see that and i'll have to file away the info for cosplay!

the skirt is very very lightweight and almost see-through, but it is opaque. it's perfect for hot weather! i will probably wear this with ankle socks and my light pink converse in the summer, but it would also be great with tights or high socks and cardigans when it's colder. 

here is what the bow's strap is comprised of under the collar. the bow is fully independent of the top (as in, it doesn't snap on anywhere.) it's basically a bow sewn onto a bra strap- theres a place to hook it on like a necklace underneath the collar, and an adjustment piece just like any bra strap has to make it longer or shorter so that it fits well. i had to make mine a lot bigger to fit around the collar.

 i think the quality is pretty good. i'm not crazy about the zipper making stray threads, but it's not too big of a deal. i did have to buy a size up as measurements on the original size weren't super accurate. 4.5/5

i love bodyline and have never had any problems with them, and i've ordered from them a lot. the second seifuku took a while to arrive and update on the tracking, but that was just the US post's fault. the seifuku didn't come in a heart bag, but i think they just do that for lolita fashion items. 5/5

Wet n Wild "Sprinkled With Love" Nail Polish Review

hey everyone! i have a nail polish review for you today, of Wet n Wild's glitter polish "Sprinkled With Love." i bought this at kmart, but wet n wild is generally available online at places like drugstore.com as well. the reason i was initially drawn to it was the presentation-- it was upside down with a few other similarly packaged glitter polishes in a plastic fishbowl, so they looked like flowers in a vase!

here is what the polish looks like.

i love the packaging with the round bottle and the long white stem. it looks very cool and futuristic, and a bit like a magical girl's item.

the line of this glitter polish is "coloricon" if you were interested in checking out the other colors in the line, and the name of the color is on the back of the label.

the glitter has a little bit of an "oil slick" effect to it, which is very similar to another oil slick gray polish i own. depending on what kind of light and where the light hits your nails, the highlight can appear pink, green, or bluish. it's a really cool effect and it looks different on your nails than in the bottle, but it's still really awesome looking.

as for the glitter itself, the polish has 2 types of glitter inside: a very fine white shimmer glitter and small flecks of multicolor metallic glitter. the combination of the two looks really great, especially combined with the light effects from the "oil slick" component of the polish.

the coverage is very good just on its own, and could be used as a standalone polish instead of a topcoat. i did a quick little swatch on my toe to see how much color it had on its own:

as you can see, it's not colorful on its own, and gives a good amount of coverage. the glitter is pretty easy to control, as well, unless you get finicky about where the larger pieces of glitter are placed. i wasn't picky about it, so it was no problem for me, but if you want where the glitter falls to be more specific you might have to play with it a little bit.

i immediately thought it would look great over a pastel color, and so i opted for "211- charming" lavender from revlon. i LOVE these results! it looks so wonderful and magical together, and the white shimmer goes perfectly with the lavender. the oil slick effects also look really cool over the lavender.

the glitter barely changed the color of the lavender and made it just a bit more bluish.

my paint job is a little messy, but you can see how great these look together! my photos don't do it justice because it doesn't capture the glitter in motion. i really recommend this polish, because i think it would look great over almost any color. i'm going to use it again over my shimmery yellow revlon polish when i wear my milky planet JSK to the june lolita meetup.

if you're looking for a new glitter to try out, go for this one! i promise you won't be disappointed. ☆

Snapeee: The Cute Purikura Version of Instagram! ♡

 

hello everyone~ do you like to decorate your photos with purikura? i wrote a post about how to do this without any apps, but i recently got a smartphone and checked out the app snapeee. snapeee is quite like instagram-- you take a photo and can put a filter on it, adjust the brightness, and post it. but unlike instagram, it features a purikura option which is the main draw of the app!

the ways you can add decorations to your photo is through filtering, brushes, stamps, frames, word bubbles, and text. the stamps usually include things like the bows and text seen above. i also added a frame, and some sparkles with a sparkle brush.

when you start out on snapeee, which is a free app, you have a few packaged themed sets of decoration tools. if you check your photo stream as it automatically shows you some user photos, you can vote on their snaps to get points. the points can be used to download more decoration tools, as well as paid options where you can buy packages of decorations.

so as you can see you can use snapeee to make your photos sparkly and purikura-cute, plus there's the added coolness of seeing photos from people you don't know around the world. you can download snapeee for free for android or iphone, and use it in japanese or english.

Cute New Hello Kitty Collections from Sanrio.com: Strawberry and Kawaii

hey everyone! ☆ there are some new really cute collections for hello kitty at sanrio.com right now, and i wanted to share my favorite items from the collections with you!

the first collection is the strawberry collection, which is a really cute assortment of some home items and a few mascot-y things like this plush. it's all really soft and sweet, with a theme of light pink and a strawberry pattern. i love how her fur is all fluffy on this plush, because it makes her unique, and strawberries are one of my favorite-ever motifs!

my favorite item by far is this adorable hanging organizer. i could honestly use one of these for my growing collection of lolita shoes. you could also put socks or tights, or even jewelry and makeup in these! it's such a cute space-saver and i feel like stuff that is so useful and adorable is hard to come by.

i also adore this jewelry box! it's so precious and dainty, and would look so cute on any vanity or dresser. i love jewelry boxes with the space for rings to be displayed, too. it's so adorable, and i love the little heart-shaped window to see your stuff! again, like most home items in the collection, it's really useful but also very cute.

 

the other new sanrio.com collection is just called "hello kitty kawaii," and it features hello kitty as different harajuku fashionistas. there's a series of plushes for each getup she wears, some bags, a cup, and keychains that are also key covers.

i'm not as crazy about this collection. i think i just tend to really love cute home items, and the other series is the perfect shade of pink. this series has thick black outlines to everything and looks a lot more like something they would also offer at target and doesn't seem as unique for a hello kitty line, but i think it is adorable nonetheless.

my favorite item is probably this really cute travel mug. i love the shape and the design is bright and cute. it's pretty much the same on all the printed items, but i love the extra pink on this cup.

i also love this overnight bag!! it's the perfect shape and is so useful. the print is more interesting because of the different little funny expressions kitty has. i love how it says "kawaii" all over, too. but it's $75.00 USD, which is way too much for me. i would rather blow that on some little twin stars stuff. i hope this goes on sale, because i really love it and i dont think one can ever really have too many bags.

New Trend: Fake Thigh Highs

hey everyone! how's it going? i'm on summer break now so i should be able to post tons for you all.

i noticed a cute trend for a new type of tights i hadn't seen before lately i wanted to share with you: fake thigh highs! 

fake thigh highs are tights which have a portion printed black where a thigh high sock would cover, and where your skin would normally be showing there's pantyhose. other than the fact that this means no more slipping thigh highs, this allows for tons of cool designs to be printed on and the idea of the top of the sock to be played with!

there's generally two ways i've seen these being made-- by either adding a cool design to right above the thigh high that looks like tattoo tights, or by making the top of the "sock" portion into another shape.

so as you can see, i think these really only come in varieties of black at the moment. i don't know if it's something to do with the pantyhose portion, so both sections have to be made out of pantyhose material, or what-- but i'm sure that soon enough there will be even more variation on this theme. it looks really cute and i bet it'll get even more popular.

even though there's only black, i think black tights with a colorful spring outfit are a great match. i like to wear black tights with something really colorful to add contrast and ground the outfit. plus, i think these are pretty sheer and lightweight for the most part, and you have to wear them with something shorter to show the effect, so i think they're still great for dressing for springtime.

Lolita 52: Favorite thing to put on my head

hello everyone! today i wanted to do a short little lolita 52 post for you all.

what is my favorite item to wear on my head when i'm wearing lolita? well, it bleeds into other fashions too, but i love big poofy chiffon bows. i have three that i wear with lolita-- a cream one, a black one, and my very favorite, a ribbonholic one i reviewed here.

i love these big soft fluffly bows because they just look really cute! i don't have specific matching headbows to anything in my closet, just those pin-on bows that bodyline includes with their items. those can be pinned to a headband and made into a headbow, but i don't like how floppy that is. i've done it with ok results, but i just love the look of a fluffy bow clipped on the side of my head.

i wish i saw more bows like this around, but i don't see them too often. if you know of any good stores that sell big puffy bows like this, let me know in the comments, and i might have to review them!

Lolita 52: My Favorite Lolita Print

hey everyone! it's time for another lolita 52 post. this time,  #49- my favorite lolita print!

my favorite print is angelic pretty's milky planet, released in 2010.  it comes in yellow, pink, blue, and black as shown above, and a popular extra color made in replicas is lavender. the only official item in lavender is the special JSK. i LOVE THIS PRINT IN EVERY SINGLE COLORWAY. oftentimes, i will really adore or see myself owning multiple colors of an AP print, but for milky planet, i just think every single color is perfect with this print.

plus, it has ice cream lace.

also, IT'S GLITTERY.

but let's talk about the print itself. IT IS A WONDERLAND. beautiful pastels in some of my favorite color combinations (pink x yellow x blue, pink and mint, lavender and pink, etc), drippy melty ice cream motifs mixed in with carousels, castle houses, ferris wheels, and an assortment of treats in SPACE!?!??! shooting stars!! cupcakes!! melty moons!! this print is overloaded with tons of space and ice cream motifs, and those are two of my favorite things. i am obsessed with this print, and find it absolutely perfect in every way. i have studied each tiny drawing on it, loving all the tiny amounts of detail put into it.

since the dress versions are too small for my bust and my favorite colorway is yellow, my dream item for this print to own is the skirt in yellow. sadly, i do not own any MP items. i was trying to buy it as my graduation present when i graduated high school a year ago but every time i tried to get it, it ended badly with sellers trying to gouge me for triple the original price. i would like to get a dress replica in my measurements from Dreaming of Lolita to tide me over, but i've heard the quality of their MP replicas has gone downhill recently and is hit or miss. so, i'm going to wait until their reviews brighten up to get a dress from them, but i would like to so i can have an MP dress that fits me.

hopefully someday, this perfect work of art will be mine! if not, i'll just have to buy the next AP dress involving space and ice cream that i fall in love with. or, hope for a reissue. honestly, this print is so popular that i'm surprised it hasn't been reissued yet! i sadly missed the boat on the initial sales by just a couple months. so close, but yet so far.
